Cinema history for sale at auction of vintage film posters

Vintage film posters featuring some of the world's most famous images from the golden age of cinema are to be auctioned in London.

Psycho

The rare collection includes bill posters for classics including The Godfather, Psycho, Lawrence of Arabia and The Great Escape alongside cult hits Blade Runner, Pulp Fiction, Trainspotting and Reservoir Dogs.

Images dating back more than 90 years to the first silent movies are represented in Fatty a la Fete, The Office Scandal and Carl Theodor Dreyer' silent masterpiece La Pasion De Jeanne D'Arc which is likely to sell for around £6,000.

Marilyn Monroe posters including The Seven Year Itch, Bus Stop and River of no Return are expected to create a fervour among collectors while huge prints of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffanys and Sabrina are expected to reach £5,000.

A rare poster of Sean Connery in Goldfinger is also expected to reach £5,000, as is the risque print of Andy Warhol's Chelsea Girls signed by artist Alan Aldridge.

The forays into film of Elvis Presley and The Beatles are also represented with Jailhouse Rock expected to reach £600 and a Swedish poster of Help! listed at around £500.

Sci Fi classics Star Wars and Close Encounters of The Third Kind are also included in the collection alongside the original Universal original of Jaws

And children's classics The Jungle Book, Sleeping Beauty and Lady and The Tramp are also being auctioned with the 1940 version of Disney's Pinocchio likely to reach £5,000.

The auction takes place at Christies South Kensington at 2pm on March 11.
